Event Description

Join us for this free, virtual event and engage with speakers along with fellow cataloguing community members about initiatives to implement current metadata standards and increase diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in library metadata.  You will also hear from OCLC staff about updates to our cataloguing products and services.

Agenda - Community presentations about current cataloguing initiatives.

Implementing Official RDA at the National Library of New Zealand
The core international standard for describing library resources, Resource Discovery and Access (RDA), has undergone a substantial revision and the National Library of New Zealand will soon switch to using the updated standard when describing the published taonga we collect and care for. There has been significant work over the past five years to prepare for implementation and we’ll share what we’ve done to get to this point, as well as some of what you can expect from the metadata we share with the wider library ecosystem.

Towards equitable and inclusive metadata at Museums Victoria Library
An overview of ongoing projects around reparative cataloguing and inclusive description at Museums Victoria Library: what they would like to achieve, the steps that have led them there, and the gaps that exist.

OCLC updates will include:

  • Linked data and the integration of WorldCat Entities URIs into WorldCat
  • Continuous efforts to enrich and improve WorldCat data and methods to update your local collection
  • Ways to optimize e-resource management, access, and visibility using Collection Manager
