My holds
You need to log in first for this page.
My account > My holds
Have you found something interesting in the library catalog? Then you can place a hold by clicking the "Place a hold" or "Request" button.
Do you want to manage your holds? Then go to the "My holds" page in "My account".
Hold types
There are three types of holds:
- Standard: Items delivered in the order they become available.
- First available: Place a hold on a group of items and after one item is fulfilled, automatically cancel the rest. Useful if you are interested in a general topic, and want items as quickly as possible.
- Sequential: Place a hold on a group of items that you want fulfilled in a specific order. Holds on subsequent items are not placed until the previous item is checked out.
Placing a hold
Click the "Place a hold" button next to the material you want to place a hold on. Don't see this button? Then you are not allowed to place a hold. Contact the library if you want to know why you cannot place a hold.
In the hold screen, you will see any potential costs for the hold. If you have any credit in your account to cover these costs, we will automatically deduct it. If not, we will register the costs.
Do you want to pick up the hold at a different location? Then select another pickup location.
By clicking the "Place a hold" button, you confirm the hold. Click close if you do not want to place the hold.
Modifying or canceling a hold
In "My account > My holds" you can view, modify, or cancel your pending holds. You will only see the button to cancel or modify a hold if it is still possible. If you do not see the button and have a question about your hold, please contact your library.
Difference between placing a hold and placing a request
In most cases, you place holds on materials at your own library or at libraries that collaborate with your library, such as those in the region or province. Sometimes, a specific book may not be available within your own library network. In that case, you can request it from libraries outside the network. Often, the library will charge additional fees for this service.
Setting start and stop dates
When placing a hold, most libraries allow you to set a start and end date. You can do this if you see "Set a start and end date" on the hold screen. For example, if you are going on vacation and want to read books about your destination before you leave, you can set an end date for the hold. After your vacation, you probably no longer need those books.
Please note: The start date is the date when the hold begins. This will usually not be the day you receive the item. Sometimes the item is still checked out, there are others ahead of you on the waitlist, or it needs to be sent from another library branch. In such cases, it may take longer for you to receive the item.
Pausing and resuming a hold
It’s possible to have been on the waitlist for a book for a long time, but then you go on vacation just as the title becomes available. As a result, you miss your hold. At some libraries, instead of setting a start and end date, you can pause your hold. This way, you don't lose your place in the queue when the book becomes available.
While your hold is paused, the queue continues. You will only receive the book once you resume the hold and it is your turn. A hold is automatically resumed on the date you have set, or by going to "My Account > My holds" and clicking "Resume".
This manual explains how to place, view, and manage holds. Not every library uses the same settings, so some functions may work slightly differently.
