Relationships (Authorize others to perform actions on your behalf)

To access this page, you need to log in first.
My account > Relationships

You can renew materials on behalf of family members, for example, without having to log in again each time. You can do this by establishing a relationship and setting authorizations. You can establish a relationship by following these steps in My account:

  1. Create the relationship
  2. Confirm the relationship
  3. You can renew or pay on behalf of someone else, or someone else can renew or pay on your behalf

Add a new relationship

You only need to set up a relationship once. It applies to both the website and the app.

In this example, let's assume you want to view and renew materials for a child.

  1. Go to the menu option Relationships.
  2. Select Add New Relationship.
  3. Enter the library card number of "child 1".
  4. Enter the date of birth of "child 1".
  5. Select Request to give authorization to relation.
  6. Select May Renew.
  7. Click on Add Relationship. An authorization request has been sent and just needs to be confirmed.

If you want to add multiple children, you can repeat steps 3 to 7 for each child.

If you have added all the children, click on Close. You will now see an overview of who you have added and what the status is. For newly requested authorizations, the status will be "Needs to be confirmed by the other person".

To authorize someone or to be authorized, you only need to have a valid subscription with the same library organization. An authorization works in one direction only. For example, if Patron A has authorized Patron B to renew, only Patron A can renew for Patron B and not vice versa.

If you want to both renew and pay for someone else, you need to establish a relationship with an authorization for both renewing and paying.

If you are unable to create a relationship online, a staff member at your library can assist you with this.

Confirm a relationship

After a relationship has been created, this still needs to be confirmed by the other party.

  1. A created authorization will display a notification Requires confirmation from the other party.
  2. Sign in using the "child 1" account. If you are logged in as someone else, please log out first.
  3. Go to "Relationships".
  4. Click on the "Confirm" link under the "Action" heading.
  5. If necessary, repeat the above steps for all unconfirmed authorization requests.

You will not receive any messages or emails in between. You complete all steps within the web environment or app.

Cancel a relationship

If after sending an authorization request the requester changes their mind, they can withdraw the request, as long as it hasn't been confirmed yet. Click on "Cancel" to revoke the requested authorization.

If the authorization has already been granted and you want to revoke it, click on "Delete". Both cardholders are able to do this.

Renew on behalf of someone else

You can renew items through My account > My Checkouts. If you are authorized to renew on behalf of someone else, you will see an additional tab. You can then renew for "myself" or for the other person by clicking on their name.

You renew materials on a per-tab basis. If renewal is not possible, you will receive a notification. Any associated costs will be charged to the patron for whom you are renewing.

If the authorized patron has outstanding debts that are too high or too old, you will not be able to renew, both for yourself and for the other person. You will receive a notification regarding this.

Pay on behalf of someone else

As a payment authorizer, you can view both your own financial details and those of the person who has authorized you. The items of that person will be marked with a number in parentheses: (1), (2), (3), depending on the number of individuals you are authorized for.

When paying for someone who authorized you, you can see in the overview exactly which items belong to which person. Each item is assigned a number (1, 2, 3, etc.) indicating which customer the item belongs to. You can pay for all items at once.

By selecting the items, you can pay for them. The paid items will be recorded for the person the items belong to, not for the person paying.

This manual explains how to authorize others to renew or make payments on your behalf or vice versa. Not every library uses the same settings, so some functions may work slightly differently.
